Working with
Digital Media
During the course of the project the students were to become familiar
with digital media as a means of personal expression and communication.
Photos could be recorded, printed, edited and when needed also
immediately deleted again.
Astonishingly some of the students were more used to working with
the computer than with the camera. Thus they could quickly orient
themselves on the display surface, open programs and look at their
photo. Even those who were not well versed in computers learnt
how they had to „click through“ the menu structure.
In doing so there were amusing moments of confusion with the English
language:
Teacher: Here is „close“.
Student: Who is Klaus? I don’t know him.
In the course of the project a new colour printer was also acquired,
which was connected and set-up by the students themselves (with
guidance). This demonstrated that the „doing-it-yourself“ meant
a great deal. Here, they had the possibility to operate expensive
technology and develop a sense of, let’s call it responsibility
for it. Afterall, holding a camera in your hand is surely different
than holding a coloured pencil.
