Children Make Animation Films
von Sigrid Lemm |
A few of the children appeared to be noticeably musically talented,
or good at drawing and very independent for their age. Many of the
children had a computer at home – or at least claimed to own
one.
These children had no experience with classical animation, although
two years earlier they had made a stop-motion film.
Marianne Friedrich’s pupils are experienced both with projects
and media. They are used to being filmed, and most of them know how
one operates a computer or a camera.
The class teacher greatly values project work. The pupils aren’t
afraid of cameras – and are not shy about expressing themselves
in front of them. I have witnessed how a girl convulsed with laughter,
when she was supposed to read aloud a completely harmless text. The
same student though gave a totally cool and self-confident interview
to a reporter, whom I had invited.
The class was very motivated. There were almost tears when I divided
up the tasks, because everyone wanted to do everything.
Marianne Friedrich has a very good reputation in her class. She knows
the children really well and the children respect her. Her opinion
means a lot to them. Marianne Friedrich left me space. I could independently
arrange the project, could always count on her support, and found it
very agreeable that she let me organize the animation film hours. When
the classes’ emotions threatened to be excessive, such as during
the distribution of the jobs for the film she intervened adn called
out: „but children…!” where upon the children quickly
composed themselves again.
