How Does One Realize An Animation Film?

Children Make Animation Films
von Sigrid Lemm

First of all: The ideal animation project would take about half a year. It integrates the different disciplines and it would be wonderful if one could work in overlapping fields.
As already mentioned though, an animation film can also be made in two to three days. There are also animation techniques that require much less expenditure of time: stop motion for example
When teachers want to realize an animation film project with their students, they can begin with asking for help and advice at a media workshop.

The children’s television channel lends so called "trick boxes. These are well lit, recording boxes with a camera, which one can set up so that it makes three frames every time it is triggered. Thus simple animations films are created on Mini DV, which can then subsequently be edited with Photoshop or Premiere.
The children’s channel also has a booklet, which explains the boxes and briefly elucidates how an animation film is made. Upon request an employee will come with the box and explain it
You can also work with a video camera, a PC, and Premiere (from Adobe). In Adobe, one can also choose to record images individually, so that drawings and figures can be recorded "image for image".

Technik
Lakritzelei is a professionally equipped animation film workshop. The film is animated on a lighttable, in the same way they would be in an animation studio. Filming is carried out using a CRASS animation table that enables the moving of the camera and multiplane recordings.
The postproduction is completed using Stopmotion Pro 4 and Premiere from Adobe. The children recorded part of the sounds themselves, and others are in part from the Internet (www.hoerspielbox.de). The sounds were edited using the program Audacity.

For our project we had very good conditions. Through the participation in KuBiM honorariums were paid as well as materials. Thus real animation film cells could be used, a luxury, which pupils normally would not get to enjoy. And for those who, at the end of this text thinks, that one needs a lot of technology and expensive material in order to make an animation film:
It's like I said in the beginning: An animated film can emerge from a small idea and needs perhaps nothing more than a pile of paper, and a pen in order to realize it.

It’s the idea that matters not the exquisite materials.
