Under the deep
ocean there was fish family with some amazing adventures.

present a play based on two stories:

| Es war einmal eine Fischfamilie. |
Da war der Vater, der grosse
Butt, die Mutter, die sehr nett war und der wunderschoene
Sohn, der Regenbogenfisch genannt wurde. The fish family
is about ready to eat dinner together. Mother is an excellent
cook. They all especially loves those German recipes.
Fischvater: Guten Abend
meine Lieben, Was gibt's zu essen?
Fischmutter: Dein Lieblingsessen!
Wienerschnitzel.
Regenbogenfisch: Das schaut
lecker aus! (the three sit down at the table and begin
to eat)
Fischmutter: So was gibt/s
neues?
Narrator: Father reports
on a fisherman that caught him today and was so kind to
let him go again. Mother asked him how he managed to do
that?
Szene: Shore poster
Narrator: Here comes the
fisherman. He comes every day and catches wonderful fish
that his wife cooks up for dinner. Today he is waiting
for a bite. The fisherman sits with fishing pole and suddenly
the line is tight. He pulls and pulls. Finally he pulls
in a big fish.
Fischvater: Hoer mal, Fischer.
Ich bitte (begs) dich. Lass mich leben. Ich bin kein richtiger
Butt. Ich bin ein verwuenschter Prinz. Ich schmecke nicht
gut. Lass mich schwimmen.
Fischer: (scratching his
head) Ein Fisch der spricht? Ich mag keinen Fisch der
sprechen kann. Ich lass dich schwimmen. (Fischer unhooks
him and lets him go. Fischvater swims away)
Scene: Table and chairs
Narrator: That was a close call. Mother asks her son how
he spent his day.
Regenbogenfisch: Ich schwimme
und schwimme den ganzen Tag (act it out) Ich bin ja so
schön! (shows off his shiny scales)
Szene: Ocean poster
Fisch 1: Du, du bist wirklich
schoen!
Fisch 2: Ja, deine Schuppen
schimmern so praechtig!
Fisch 3: Du bist so schoen
wie ein Regenbogen.
Fisch 4: Ja, du bist der
Regenbogenfisch.
Fisch 5: Du, Regenbogenfisch,
komm mit uns.
Fisch 6: Du, Regenbogenfisch,
komm spiel mit uns.
Regenbogenfisch: Nein, nein,
das kann ich nicht. (swimm away proudly)
Szene: dinner table. (Mother
and father look at each other. Roll their eyes and sigh.)
Narrator: A few days later,
the fish family are at dinner again.
Mutter: Was gibt's neues?
Narrator: Father tells her
that the fisherman came back. His wife told him to come.
She wants a bigger house and he granted her wish.
Szene: Shore (Fischer: (walks
slowly to the sea. The sea was green and blue and not
clear.)
Fischer: Manntje, Manntje,
Timpe Te, Buttje, Buttje in der See, meine Frau, die Ilsebill,
will nicht so, als ich wohl will.
Narrator: The fisherman
called the fatherfish and complained that he was only
coming because his wife had asked him. The fatherfish
came up from the sea.
Vaterfisch: Was willst du
denn?
Fischer: Meine Frau sagt
ich soll mir etwas wuenschen.
Vaterfisch: Was wuenscht
du dir denn?
Fischer: Meine Frau wuenscht
sich ein grosses Haus.
Vaterfisch: Geh nach Hause.
Sie hat schon ein grosses Haus.
Narrator: The fisherman
turns and goes home to find a beautiful house with comfortable
rooms and a pantry full of good food. He meets his wife.
Fischerfrau: Das Haus ist
sehr schoen. Komm ich zeig es dir. (They both admire the
house.)
Fischer: Das ist gut. Es
gefaellt mir. So soll es bleiben. Jetzt werden wir froh
sein. Fischerfrau: Nein,
wir muessen nachdenken (she starts to think)
Narrator: They ate and slept
in the house for 8 or 14 days.
Fischerfrau: Hoer Mann.
Das Haus ist zu eng (motion narrowness) Der Garten ist
zu klein (point to garden) Ich moechte ein grosseres Haus.
Ein Haus aus Stein. Geh zum Butt und sag ihm er soll dir
ein Schloss schenken.
Narrator: The fisherman
and his wife argued for a while but the wife convinced
him to go to the fish and ask him for a castle. He went
slowly, with a heavy heart. He really didn't want to,
but he went. The water was violet and dark blue and grey
but quiet. He got to the shore and said:
Fischer: Manntje, Manntje,
Timpe Te, Buttje, Buttje in der See, meine Frau, die Ilsebill,
will nicht so, als ich wohl will. (The fatherfish appears)
Vaterfisch: Was will du
denn?
Fischer: Ach, meine Frau
will in einem grossen steineren Schloss wohnen. Vaterfisch:
Geh nach Hause. Sie hat schon ihr Schloss.
Narrator: So when the fisherman
came home there was a castle and there was his wife waving
at the door.
Fischerfrau: (taking him
by the hand) Komm mit herein. Ich zeige dir alles. Narrator:
The wife showed him the beautiful castle. Now he thought
they would be happy.
Scene: Table and chairs
Mutterfisch: So, du mein kleiner Regenbogenfisch. Was
hast du den ganzen Tag gemacht?
Regenbogenfisch: Ich schwamm
fast den ganzen Tag und ploetzlich fuehlte ich etwas.
Scene: Ocean Narrator: Rainbowfish
is swimming slowly and proudly and suddenly a small blue
fish appears and swims up close to him and touches his
fin.
Kleiner Fisch: Du, Regenbogenfish,
warte einmal. Warte auf mich. Bitte gib mir einer deiner
schoenen Schuppen. Die sind so wunderbar. Du hast so viele.
Regenbogenfisch: (haughtily)
Du willst eine meiner Schuppen? Wer bist du denn? Du bist
nur ein kleiner blauer Fisch. Geh weg!
Narrator: The small blue
fish was shocked and swam away. He was so upset he told
all his friends. From then on, no one talked to the rainbowfish.
They turned away from him when he came by.
Scene: table and chairs.
Regenbogenfisch (begins to cry)
Mutterfisch: Warum weinst
du?
Regenbogenfisch: Ich bin
so traurig. Ich bin so allein. Was soll ich machen? Mutterfisch:
stroking his scales) Ach, du mein armer, armer Regenbogenfisch.
Scene: ocean.
Narrator: The rainbowfish
swam around the entire ocean. He was beautiful but very
lonely.
Scene: shore.
Narrator: The next morning
the fisherman and his wife awoke and she told him to look
out the window.
Fischerfrau: Sieh, das ganze
Land. Ich moechte das ganze Land. Ich moechte Konig vom
ganzen Land sein.
Narrator: The request to
be king surprised the fisherman and they argued about
this but in the end he was on his way to see the fish
again. (The sea was black and gray and smelled bad.)
Fischer: Manntje, Manntje,
Timpe Te, Buttje, Buttje in der See, meine Frau, die Ilsebill,
will nicht so, als ich wohl will.
Fischvater: Was willst du
denn?
Fischer: Meine Frau will
Koenig sein.
Fischvater: Geh nach Hause.
Sie ist Koenig.
Narrator: The fisherman
returned to find his wife on a high throne with a crown
on her head. He thought that now she will be happy.
Scene change to table: (the
fishfamily sits around the table and the rainbowfish is
sad.
Vaterfisch: Warum ist unser
Regenbogenfisch so traurig?
Mutterfisch: Er ist ganz
allein. Niemand spielt mit ihm.
Vaterfisch: Sohn, geh zum
Seestern und frage ihm um Hilfe. Er ist sehr weise. Scene:
Ocean: Narrator: The rainbowfish swims around and
finds the starfisch. The starfisch cannot help him (shakes
his head) He tells him to go see the octopus. He will
be able to help him.
Scene: table and chairs: Mutterfisch:
Ist die Fischerfrau jetzt Koenig? Vaterfisch:
Ja, aber sie ist nicht gluecklich.
Mutterfisch: Was will sie
denn?
Scene: shore: Narrator:
The fisherman is coming to the shore again. The big fish
sees him already from a distance. The sea is black and
big bubbles started to boil up from its depth.
Vaterfisch: Was willst du
denn?
Fischer: Meine Frau will
Kaiser sein.
Vaterfisch: Geh nach Hause.
Sie ist Kaiser.
Narrator: So the fisherman
finds his wife on an even higher throne with a bigger
crown on her head. Now she must be happy he thought.
Scene change: Ocean Narrator:
The rainbow fish has been swimming for a long time. It
was very dark at the bottom of the ocean. He finds a cave.
He finds two eyes looking at him. It is the octopus. He
comes out slowly. The rainbow shivers with freight.
Tintenfisch: Was willst
du denn?
Regenbogenfisch: Ich bin
traurig. Ich bin so allein. Was soll ich machen? Tintenfisch:
Gib jeden Fisch eine deiner schoenen Schuppen.
Du wirst nicht mehr so schoen sein. Aber du wirst gluecklich
sein.
Regenbogenfisch: Aber, das
kann ich doch nicht.....
Narrator: The octopus had
already disappeared into the cave. The rainbowfish pondered
what the octopus had said over and over.
Scene: table and chairs: Mutterfisch:
War die Fischerfrau jetzt gluecklich? Vaterfisch:
Nein, auch nicht. Sie wollte Papst werden.
Mutterfisch: Und war sie
dann Papst?
Vaterfisch: Ja, der Fischer
fand sie zu Hause und sie war Papst.
Mutterfisch: Jetzt muss
si doch gluecklich gewesen sein. Was gibt es denn noch
in der Welt?
Scene : Shore Narrator:
Fishfather told about his adventures. The fisherman had
come again and the wife wanted to be the pope. The water
was red and there was thunder and lightening and the fisherman
was shivering in fright. But his wife was the pope, just
as the fish had promised.
Scene change: Ocean Narrator:
The rainbowfish was still thinking about what the octopus
had said, when he felt a tug on his fin.
Kleiner blauer Fisch: Regenbogen
fisch, bitte, sei nicht boese. Ich will nur eine deiner
kleiner Schuppen. Bitte. Regenbogenfisch (slowly) Ja,
du kannst eine meiner kleinen Schuppen haben. Du bist
ja auch klein.
Narrator: Carefully the
rainbowfish pulled the smallest scale and gives it the
little blue fish.
Kleiner blauer Fisch: Danke,
danke vielmals.
Narrator: The small fish
swam away happily. Suddenly the rainbowfish felt a strange
feeling. He watched the small fish for a long time. Then
other fish came and surrounded him and asked for a scale.
The rainbowfish gave a scale to each of them. Soon he
had only one scale left. The water around him was shiny
The fish were all smiling.
Scene: dinnertable: Mutterfisch:
So war die Fischerfrau jetzt gluecklich als Papst?
Vaterfisch: Nein, sie wollte
wie der liebe Gott sein.
Mutterfisch: Nein, wirklich?
Das ist doch unmoeglich! Was hast du gesagt? Vaterfisch:
Ich habe gesagt:
Scene : shore: (The sea was stormy, there were
huge black waves and there was a terrible noise.)
Fischer: Manntje, Manntje,
Timpe Te, Buttje, Buttje in der See, meine Frau, die Ilsebill,
will nicht so, als ich wohl will.
Vaterfisch: Was willst du
denn?
Fischer: Meine Frau will
wie der liebe Gott sein. (shaking in fright)
Vaterfisch: Geh nach Hause.
Narrator: As the fisherman
came back home he found his little hut by the shore. And
today you might still see him and his wife sitting in
front of it and looking out at the sea.
Scene change: Ocean (The
rainbowfish was smiling too as the other fish swam around
him.)
Fisch 1: Komm Regenbogenfisch.
Komm, spiel mit uns, tanz mit uns. Regenbogenfisch:
Ja, ich komme, ich spiele, ich bin nicht mehr allein!
Props: table and 3 chairs
